Letter P

A graphic I created using three individual pieces of hand lettering that I drew for a client who needed a letter 'P' graphic for a printed stationery design.

March in Frame blog

Happy Monday! And Happy March! We had a nice weekend, and I hope you did as well! My highlight was Saturday afternoon/evening...Madilyn spent some time at my parents' house, and Josh and I did some shopping and ate a greatl dinner at P.F. Chang's. I had crispy honey chicken, spinach with garlic, and citrus spice tea. It was all so, so delicious. And we shared their 'Great Wall of Chocolate' for dessert. Thank goodness we only ordered one...have you seen that thing? It really is huge, and we ate every last bite. Yesterday our neighbors, Jon and Erin, had a hockey-watching party, so we spent the evening at their house. Jon is Canadian, so it made for some (fun) rivalry for watching the game. I'm sad to see the Olympics end, but it was a great couple weeks with some wonderful moments!

Hand drawn type - save the date

For this two-sided save the date design, my client created the wording and layout, and then handed it over to me to replace the computer type in her design with my hand lettering. Doesn't it sound like it would be so fun to be a guest at this wedding?

When I first began my business, I took on many different types of projects - fine art pieces, designs for print, signs, cards, lots and lots of envelope addressing, and all kinds of other pieces. Taking on such a large variety of work allowed me the opportunity to grow as an artist, develop my style, and learn what types of projects I most enjoyed. As my work developed, I realized my passion was creating hand lettering for digital and print design projects, and in order to bring this type of work to the forefront of my business, I began working on a stationery line. Upon launching several pieces earlier this year, it soon became apparent to me that running a stationery business, with all of its facets, would in actuality keep me from being able to focus on the very work that I most wanted to do. So, I've decided to keep my focus on hand lettering - working with designers, art and marketing directors, and printers by contributing my lettering to their designs and projects. Current orders and reservations for other types of projects will be happily fulfilled as planned, of course. I believe that focusing on the work I am most passionate about and that I do best will be the most personally and professionally fulfilling. The kind encouragement that many of you have given me is so appreciated. I love the connections and relationships blogging has initiated, and I look forward to continuing to develop my work and sharing it here with you. Happy Weekend!

thinking of
Judging by the content of my google reader, it seems like many of my fellow bloggers would complete the above statement with an adamant 'spring!!' Lots of warm weather inspired posts are popping up this week, most likely in hopeful response to the endless winter here on the east coast, and the fact that, with Valentine's day behind us, spring really is what's next! Though, I'm trying not to wish away our winter days too quickly - there is lots that I love about winter, so I'm determined to enjoy it thoroughly, even if it did come on a little strong this year! So, what are you thinking of? Right now, I'm thinking of my pending Amazon delivery, due to arrive any moment! I've got some new lettering books on the way that I excited to explore. It must be pretty pleasant to be a delivery person...everyone is always so excited to see you!

Welcome!
The Pen & Ink journal is handwritten by
Lisa Ridgely, a designer based in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Besides hand lettering, I also love learning, going for walks, chai tea, photography, museums, pandora radio, salt water taffy, organizing, crisp fall weather, touring historic places, comfy blankets, libraries, cheesecake, and living life with my wonderful husband, Josh, and our sweet little girl, Madilyn.

Thank you for visiting!
