Sleeping Nook 1

As I've mentioned previously, we recently moved into a new house, and we've been working on several projects in the last couple months. Besides my studio, another project is the incredible nook bed Josh built for Madilyn.

Sleeping Nook 2

A few months ago, I came across a post on You Are My Fave showing photos of sleeping nooks. I loved the idea, and showed it to Josh, who wanted to undertake the project. He is a professional framer (he actually framed the entire house), and he completed the whole project - framing, drywall, painting, trim, everything - himself.

The bed is twin-sized, and has built-in bookshelves at each end. The bottom shelf at each end lifts out to access a finished storage space below. Josh's uncle, a custom cabinet maker, is currently building three drawers that will go under the bed platform (you can see the openings for these in the first photo), to add even more storage.

Josh did such an incredible job on this project, and Madilyn absolutely adores her special bed from daddy. I must admit I'm a bit jealous of her little nook, and definitely sneak in there now and then (and I've caught Josh in there, too!) It is such a cozy spot.

Oh my gosh. I can't believe I inspired this! A major blogging accomplishment. I cannot believe how perfect it turned out. I wish my husband was this handy. You're little girl will adore this fore

Oh my! I am a little jealous of her too! I saw that post on you are my fave, and reposted about it...we're not going to live in our current home forever, so I'm not even considering it now. But I tell you what - I'm printing this out, and bookmarking it, and sending it to my husband and dad so that one day, HOPEFULLY, we can do something something similar for our daughter. Absolutely love it -- what a lucky little girl! :-)

It is beautiful, you guys did such a wonderful job. My only question here: is it hard to change the sheets?

This is so adorable, I would've loved this room as a kid!

Thank you all so much for your kind comments!

Sally - No, not at all! I was afraid it would be, but Josh left a little extra space on the sides and ends. I just line up the sheet and blanket along the front and top, and then climb in the bed to tuck the extra alongside the wall and bottom.

Your nook is lovely.

But what I really must know is where you got that cat quilt! My little girl is crazy about cats, and good cat bedding has been very difficult to find.

Thanks so much!

Hi Victoria!

My mom made the cat blanket - it is actually a patterned piece of fleece. I think she got it from JoAnn Fabrics.

I just fell in love with your nook!! Do you think it would be OK to ask your husband a couple of questions about the construction? Thanks in advance?

Love that nook! How perfectly warm and cozy, and even more special when it's built by family.

I always wanted something like this when I was little! Beautiful! I can see how it would be a wonderful bed for a little boy too! I'd love to have something like this built for my son who loves cozy nooks! Curtains could turn it into an impromptu "stage" or a fort, or a tent!

Looks fantastic!!

Can I hire Josh to come do one for us? You could come out on a fly fishing vacation (provided by my husband ;)
